Bye bye

We’re sad to announce that Bright Club Bristol will not be returning – at least not in its previous form. This is not due to any lack of interest in the event, which was extremely popular and always sold out, but to “life”, which has happened in various ways to all of us on the team and sometimes just gets in the way. If anyone is interested in reinventing Bright Club Bristol, we would be very happy to pass on our experiences and be of help in any way we can.

We hope you enjoyed the jokes about quantum thingamabobbies and equine genitalia etc etc.

Bye bye!

BCB #10: “Bristol” song by Rachael Dadd

So it’s only taken us about six months… but finally we’re bringing you the song that Rachael Dadd wrote for our two-year anniversary show. There’s some audience interaction, which did happen on the night, but we didn’t catch it so well on the audio so make sure you sing along at home. Thank you to Rachael – this was wonderful.

We are UBER-EXCITED to announce our tenth show and two-year anniversary gig! We don’t know why we didn’t think of it before. Not only that, but we asked the amazing Rachael Dadd to write us a song about BRISTOL and she’s only bloody said yes! AND because it’s Christmas, there will be mulled wine. This show is Not. To. Be. Missed. And that’s before we even get to the clever folks, who are ALL BRISTOL-based researchers and experts on ridiculous things:

Caroline Brown – how we pay attention and what we ignore

Alice Hortop – therapeutic use of humour

Paul Wyatt – left- and right-handed chemicals

Jamie McCallum – spying on animals

Anna McMullen – fashion and sweatshops

Some tickets will be available on the door for £7 from 6.30pm. Please see FAQs for ticket queries. The Bright Club bar will be serving from 6.30pm. Our bar is on the 3rd floor of Hamilton House – same as the venue for Bright Club.

BCB #8: “Change” song by Clayton Blizzard

Clayton Blizzard

Folk-rapper Clayton Blizzard went down a storm at last Thursday’s Bright Club. (Despite heckling from side-stage, MC Mike Bubbins was so impressed by his comedic banter that he brain-banked one of his jokes for future use.) Here’s the specially commissioned song Clayton wrote on the subject “Change” – recorded on the night.

BCB #6: “Vintage” song by Dan Everett

Dan Everett

Amazing work by Dan Everett last Thursday night, as our songwriter for Bright Club: “Vintage”. Via Wikipedia, he came up with about a hundred different ways to define vintage. “Cupcakes, tweed and strife” was our favourite. Here’s the song. Let it wash over you as you soak yourself in cheap, very-much-the-opposite-of-vintage, wine this Christmas.

BCB #5: “BRAAAAINS!” song by Katey Brooks

Katey Brooks

The lovely Katey Brooks, who performed for us recently at Bright Club: “BRAAAAINS!“, has gone away and recorded a live-esque version of her BRAAAAINS-themed song for us. At the show, the audience obliged Katey by doing a little whoop at each vaguely brainy word she sang… so “cerebellum” – “whoop!”, “nervous system” – “whoop!”. A bit like that. Anyway, this version doesn’t have the audience participation, but it’s still MOST excellent and you’re welcome to add your own whooping while listening.
